MAGIC's Keith Matthews (The James Hutton Institute) participated in a two day seminar on the topic – Agricultural policy for the environment or environmental policy for agriculture, jointly hosted by The EU Commission and the European Association of Agricultural Economics. This brought together researchers and policy makers to discuss the nexus of water, energy, food and environment policies and how these may need to change to deliver the ambitions of the EUs sustainable development and climate change goals. Central to the seminar was how the CAP has changed and how it will have to continue to evolve going forward. Sessions on conceptual framings, methods of analysis and case studies were complemented by statements on policy priorities led by DG’s Agri, Env and Clima. Contrasting perspectives were provided by keynote academic, NGO and policy-maker delegates from the Asia, North and South America.
More details on the 172nd European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) Seminar are available on the EU Science Hub of the Commission. Keith's presentation at the event is available in our documents repository.
