Electrical vehicles or new mobility practices: evaluating the quality of current narratives | 03 July 2019 | Cerbère, France
The objective of this focus group was to discuss the innovation electric car in the context of EU decarbonisation policies with participants of the 2019 Degrowth and Environmental Justice Summer School. This specific audience explores radical systemic transformations for handling socio-environmental crises. The profile of participants was heterogeneous, with people from academia, energy cooperatives, social movements and independent activists. In bringing together the different views of the participants, the focus group provided a space to discuss visions, expectations, concerns, and challenges posed by mobility innovations and the ensuing social practices. The discussion was informed by the results of MAGIC (see primer presentation below).
Specific objectives of the focus group were:
- Compare the narratives about electric vehicles at the level of the European Union's policies with the narratives from the participants in the degrowth summer school.
- Reflect on the implications of the quantitative story-telling about the electric car.
- Identify gaps in knowledge, concerns and alternative solutions, sources of uncertainty, expected conflicts and risks to be addressed in future QST cycles.
